FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Attention & Focus Training

Why should I use Cogmed to expand my working memory?

Your working memory gives you the ability to hold several pieces of information in your brain at once. This ability allows you to use the information to solve a problem, plan a task, drive safely, or follow a conversation.

Everyone has a different working memory capacity. Some people can hold seven pieces of information in their working memory, while others may only hold two or three. Boosting your working memory improves your overall cognitive function, which can positively impact many aspects of your behavior.

As your working memory capacity improves, you’ll find it easier to learn, pay attention, self-manage, and resist distractions.

Cogmed training is a personalized program designed to challenge and improve your working memory. Your Cogmed qualified coach from Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic will work closely with you, providing structure, motivation, and feedback on your progress.

You’ll have 25 training sessions that are 30–45 minutes long. While your schedule may vary, five sessions over five weeks generally provide the comprehensive training you need.

To achieve optimal results, your program must present a rigorous and systematic challenge. Based on your performance, your coach adjusts the difficulty level of your software in real time. By fine-tuning your program, we make sure your training always pushes the edge of your cognitive capacity.

Your program includes:

  • Initial interview
  • Start-up session
  • Weekly coach calls
  • Access to the Cogmed coaching center
  • Wrap-up session

You’ll also have a follow-up interview six months after completing your training.
