Attention & Focus Training

Cogmed is a computerized training program to improve your working memory. People of all ages can benefit from Cogmed, but the cause of their poor working memory varies.

Many mental health problems are associated with a poor working memory. A concussion, age-related cognitive decline, or simply feeling you can’t concentrate the way you should are all possible reasons to use Attention & Focus Training.

Your brain continues to reorganize and change throughout your life. The same concept, called neuroplasticity, also applies to working memory: You can improve it at any age with intensive training.

Your working memory gives you the ability to hold several pieces of information in your brain. This ability allows you to use the information to solve a problem, plan a task, drive safely, or follow a conversation.

Everyone has a different working memory capacity. Some people can hold seven pieces of information in their working memory, while others may only hold two or three. Boosting your working memory improves your overall cognitive function and generalizes to other aspects of your behavior.

As your working memory capacity improves, you’ll find it easier to learn, pay attention, self-manage, and resist distractions.

Cogmed uses a coaching approach so you have ongoing support and encouragement throughout your training. Your Cogmed qualified coach from Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic works closely with you, providing structure, motivation, and feedback on your progress.

You’ll have 25 training sessions that are 30-45 minutes long. While your schedule may vary, five sessions over five weeks provides the comprehensive training you need.

To achieve optimal results, your program must present a rigorous and systematic challenge. Based on your performance, your coach adjusts the difficulty level of your software in real time. By fine-tuning your program, your training always pushes the edge of your cognitive capacity.

Your program includes:

  • Initial interview
  • Start-up session
  • Weekly coach calls
  • Access to the Cogmed coaching center
  • Wrap-up session

You’ll also have a follow-up interview six months after completing your training.
