Brief Description of eBook:

  • Untapped Potential is a downloadable eBook designed to help parents know what to do when their kids are experiencing problems at school, with friends, and at home.
  • Research reveals that ADHD kids have a substantially higher likelihood of the following things: learning disabilities, get into trouble, have substance abuse problems, they are divorced, can’t hold a job, and fail out of college.
  • Kids with ADHD often find it difficult to pay attention to stuff they call “boring”. They may seem to lose interest in school assignments, chores, projects they were working on, or even paying attention to what you have to say.
  • A child with the condition may have trouble understanding why they need to be organized, plan for their future, stay on top of their work, or do anything out of their immediate window of time (Think test in two weeks). They don’t have integrity or follow thru on their commitments. Because of this, a child with ADHD might be seen as lazy, careless, thoughtless, dumb (even though they’re smart).

Give an Analogy

  • Imagine a Porsche 911 with bicycle brakes: That’s Your ADHD Child (They have this amazing performing car, but the brakes don’t work because they’re made for a bicycle not a high performing car.
  • Most people (without ADHD) could just stick with something until the project is finished. For example, a child might come home, get a snack, and do their homework…
  • … or read a book for an hour, or make plans for their term paper, or for their college applications, and do it!…
  • Or make plans with friends and follow through. Or keep their book and papers organized, keep track of their own schedule, show up on time, or get ready in the morning without 500 reminders.
  • All these examples are based on the child’s normal brain development where they can just do these things. In essence, they can use their brain in age appropriate ways to achieve their goals, daily tasks, and make and keep friendships over tie.
  • Unfortunately, an ADHD child is not always in charge of their own brain. Their brain leads them to things that take them away from what they would have been otherwise able to follow thru on.

Managing an ADHD Child

Parenting an ADHD child is like being your ADHD child’s manager/CEO/Head Coach because your are serving as the child’s frontal lobes (executive functions) helping them do all those things:
Be on time…
Keep track of things…
Manage their assignments and schedules…
Keeping organized.
Even Daily Hygiene routines….
Remembering book bags and gym clothes…
Going to bed on time because tomorrow is a special day…(And they’re so excited they stay up talking about.)

Richard’s Letter

  • The goal of this book is to create a complete paradigm shift in mental health. One that integrates your child’s mental health into a preventative system and that monitors and tracts their developmental from birth, just like you do with their physical body from the moment of conception.
  • You monitor height, weight, blood pressure, so too can you monitor your child’s brain development by measuring its performance, processing abilities, and functional output.
  • Rather than intervening when a problem is detected in school, this model is proactive and would simply provide the opportunities for your child to grow their brains to reach their maximum potential at all stages of their lives.
  • Some of our greatest discoveries have come from our clients with whom we work, so please share with us the ways these strategies have helped you and we will share them with the readers of this book and future clients.
  • We can build a community, create a movement, one that helps all our children, one child at a time. Together we are stronger.
  • We need your help with our mission of transforming the lives of children so they can stop suffering and put them on a new developmental trajectory to live their true potential and their best lives.

What Are People Saying About Untapped Potential?

“Dr. Abbey saved our family. This might sound like hyperbole, but it is true. At 5 years, my son was almost non-verbal, and diagnosed by Stanford as being on the Autistic spectrum, and rated 9/10 on the ADHD scale. No private school would take him. A Doctor at the CHADD conference recommend Dr. Abbey to us, and when he did a brain map, it turned out our son had Auditory Processing disorder. A tutor had almost given up on him being able to learn reading through phonics. Just a few Neurofeedback sessions later, my son started blending sounds…”

- T. Y.

“All 5 members of my family have been served by Abbey Clinic – it’s that good. We started with one kid as a test, and then continued on through the whole family because the experience with the first was so great. The report and insights given from the testing of my 3 kids has been hugely beneficial to their school and social lives. My daughter did brain training to help with her ADHD. We saw noticeable improvement. The same teenage daughter has made wonderful progress with her anxiety…”

- S.V.

“Neurofeedback at Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic has been life changing for my family. I have been shocked and delighted by the amazing progress my 6 year old son has made. My son had a mix of autistic, obsessive compulsive, defiant, hyperactive and inattentive symptoms that have melted away after neurofeedback. Thanks to neurofeedback at Abbey Neuropsychology we are on a wildly different developmental trajectory, as he now seems like a slightly intense but typical child…”

- A. S.

“I brought my son to the Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic a year ago, and they did a very thorough evaluation on him and helped me understand his strengths and weaknesses. They then saw him for neurofeedback, and his attention has dramatically improved. My family and I will always be grateful!”

- C.Z.

“Dr. Abbey and his colleagues are extremely passionate about their work and truly care about providing the highest quality services to their clients. He is very knowledgeable and dedicated to providing comprehensive assessment services to children to enrich their lives. He provides treatments that are based upon current research and very effective for children. I can’t recommend him more highly.”

- E.P.

“Dr. Abbey is dedicated to his patients and is truly an expert in his field. The time and attention he devotes to his patients is evident. I strongly recommend this practice if you or your child need intervention for an attention or learning disorder. This is a well run clinic that focuses on the patient and leverages the staff and Dr. Abbey’s expertise.”

- J.S.

“I had an incredible experience with the therapist Rachael. I worked with her for over a year and made significant changes in my life. When I started working with her I was anxious, depressed, and overwhelmed with my life. I am a young mother of three and I was feeling totally out of sync. Rachael is gentle and kind, but was also comfortable telling me exactly what I needed to hear. I made some major life transitions while working with her, including moving with my family and career changes. I am so happy I had the opportunity to work with her, I still miss our sessions!”

- R.D.

Wow. Any parent of a child with ADD/ADHD needs to read this book. It’s a really fresh take and informative view on how to treat your child without medication.

I especially loved the chapter on ways you can instantly help your child and set them up for success. 5 stars for Dr. Abbey and Rachael Little.

- N.F.

“The clinic itself is fine. The building is in a convenient location on Cal Ave and there’s usually parking. Wish they’d leave the bathroom door unlocked, tho.

What I’m more interested in is recommending therapist Rachael Little to anyone hoping to feel better or at least know that someone out there cares.I ended up with Rachael mostly by luck. I just wanted someone close to my house. I think I originally ended up with Abbey because of their ADHD program, and I may still try that when I have more free time, but Rachael was who I met and quickly it became apparent to both of us that I had more pressing issues to work on. “

- M.C.

“I am not easy to impress when it comes to practitioners. I have been through 20 years of Lyme and mold illness and seen hundreds (literally) of practitioners.

Rachael Little at Abbey has been my practitioner for LENS neurofeedback, and I love working with her. She’s compassionate, bright, and has a variety of tools that she is well-versed in working with. I have been very pleased with my work with Rachael and appreciate the opportunity to work with her. I highly recommend her.”

- S.F.

“When I first came to the Abbey Clinic my child’s anxiety had become so debilitating we thought of withdrawing from school. As I write this now, it is through tears of gratitude for the loving way everyone at the Abbey Clinic reassured and supported us. It is an absolute certainty that my child’s current success, not only in school but in every aspect of life, is due in no small part to the help we received there.”

- K.M.

“I am a private psychologist who has referred many patients to Dr. Abbey’s clinic for both assessment and treatment.  Dr. Abbey and his staff members have all been extremely helpful and both my patients and their families have reported effective treatment and positive experiences. The assessments and treatment offered by this clinic are complex and the fees charged reflect that complexity.”
